On January 1, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Orland Park, Illinois, resulting in the deaths of two men, Jonathan Paska and Michael Lafrey. The incident took place in the early hours of the morning, specifically around 1:20 a.m., at a residence in the 8500 block of 145th Place.
Jonathan Paska, 37, was found dead at the scene, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. His death was ruled a homicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner.
The other victim, Michael Lafrey, 36, who resided at the address where the incident occurred, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. His death was ruled a suicide.
According to the Orland Park Police, the two men were longtime acquaintances and had returned from a night out shortly before the incident. An argument between them escalated into an exchange of gunfire, leading to the fatal outcome.
Police responded to a shots fired call and found both men dead inside the home. The incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide, and no arrests were made as it was determined to be an isolated incident with no threat to the public.
The investigation is ongoing, with the Illinois State Police involved in the case.
