On April 4, 2023, Ralen T. Liverpool, a 21-year-old resident of Fairview Heights, Illinois, was fatally shot in Cahokia Heights, Illinois. The incident occurred around 11:22 PM when police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 73rd Street and Glenwood Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found Ralen Liverpool inside his vehicle, where he had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cahokia Heights Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis to investigate the homicide. The investigation led to the identification and charging of three suspects in connection with Liverpool's death. The suspects are Aliya C. Zeilman, aged 19; Elijah D. Tillman, aged 22; and Lavar A. Gilbert Jr, aged 25. Each of these individuals was charged with 1st Degree Murder. The bond amounts set for the suspects were $1,000,000 for both Aliya Zeilman and Lavar Gilbert Jr, and $2,500,000 for Elijah Tillman.
The shooting is classified as a homicide, and the case is being managed by a regional team of detectives, including Lt. Bud Jeremias from the Collinsville PD, Sgt. Derek Weh from the Illinois State Police, and Sgt. Kyle Bade from the Shiloh PD. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of gun violence, as Ralen T. Liverpool is remembered as a victim lost to such violence.
