On June 7, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred in Oak Brook, Illinois, resulting in the death of 27-year-old Donameen Jones. The incident took place early Wednesday morning near the intersection of 22nd Street and Camden Court. According to Oak Brook Village Police Chief Brian Strockis, police responded to a report of shots fired into a vehicle at approximately 12:05 a.m..
Donameen Jones, who was from the city of Chicago, was driving through Oak Brook when his vehicle came under fire.
He was hit by a spray of gunfire and subsequently killed. The police recovered 21 shell casings from the scene, indicating a significant amount of gunfire. Chief Strockis stated that they believe Jones was specifically targeted by the offenders and may have been followed to the area where the shooting occurred.
Jones had an extensive criminal history, including numerous drug and gun convictions. Six years prior to his death, he was arrested by the Chicago Police Department for carrying a Glock pistol with a high-capacity drum magazine and a second similar gun hidden under the car seat. At the time of his death, Jones had recently been convicted of being a felon in possession of a gun.
