On August 13, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Highland Park, Illinois, resulting in the death of 16-year-old Omar Diaz from Highwood. The incident took place around 11:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of Green Bay Road, where Diaz was walking on the sidewalk. He was approached by another individual, later identified as Estiven Sarminento, also 16 years old and a resident of Highland Park.
