On the evening of October 25, 2023, in Carpentersville, Illinois, 17-year-old Anthony Roy Aragon Jr., a male teenager, was fatally shot. The incident occurred near the 1-99 block of Robin Road, where shots were fired at a vehicle occupied by multiple individuals. Anthony, seated inside, was struck in the head and later pronounced dead at Advocate Sherman Hospital.
Two other occupants sustained injuries: one suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and continues to recover, while another was grazed by a bullet and was treated and released that evening.
Authorities quickly identified and charged two cousins from Carpentersville in connection with the shooting. Alan Medina, 19, and his 16-year-old cousin, Jimmy Medina, were accused of firing multiple shots from their vehicle toward the victims' car. Both face charges including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner's Identification card.
Alan Medina remains in custody, awaiting his next court appearance scheduled for November 15, 2023. His cousin, Jimmy, is detained at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center, with a hearing set for November 3, 2023.
Anthony's sudden passing deeply affected the Carpentersville community. Visitation services were held on October 31, 2023, at Dundee Funeral Home in East Dundee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on November 1 at St. Monica Catholic Church in Carpentersville. He was laid to rest at Dundee Township Cemetery East.
