On October 26, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Matteson, Illinois, resulting in the deaths of 20-year-old Ashiya Ogden and 16-year-old Darius Folds, both residents of Chicago. The shooting took place in an apartment located in the 4100 block of Lindenwood Drive. According to authorities, the incident happened during an argument between two women who lived in the apartment. Officers responded to the scene just before 10:30 p.m. and found the victims with apparent gunshot wounds. Ashiya Ogden had been shot in the head, while Darius Folds had been shot in the head and chest.

The investigation led to the identification of Kephren Ferguson, a 34-year-old man from Hammond, Indiana, as the suspect. Ferguson is the boyfriend of one of the roommates in the apartment, and the two victims were siblings of another roommate. On Friday, following the execution of a search warrant, Ferguson was arrested at his residence in Hammond by detectives from the Hammond Police Department SWAT and the Matteson Police Department. He was taken into custody without incident.

Ferguson has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. He is currently being held in the Lake County Jail in Indiana and is awaiting extradition to Cook County, Illinois, to face the charges approved by the Cook County State’s Attorney.

The Cook County Coroner’s Office identified the victims, and the Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the nature of their injuries. The case highlights the tragic consequences of gun violence, as both victims lost their lives in a domestic dispute that escalated into a fatal shooting.
