On November 18, 2023, a tragic incident occurred on Chicago's far West Side, resulting in the death of 16-year-old Leontaye Taylor. The incident took place inside a residence in the 100 block of North Parkside Avenue around 8:30 p.m..
The events leading to Taylor's death involved a physical altercation between him and a 33-year-old male. During the altercation, the 33-year-old man produced a handgun and fired multiple shots at Taylor, who was subsequently shot multiple times in the
chest. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
A witness reported that the suspect fled the residence before police arrived, taking the handgun with him. However, contrary to initial reports of no one being in custody, Chicago police later confirmed that a suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident, with charges pending.
Leontaye Taylor lived in the same block where the shooting occurred, and his death has been confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Area Four detectives are currently investigating the case.
The incident highlights the ongoing issue of gun violence in Chicago, with Taylor's death being another tragic example of its devastating consequences.
