On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred in the 4200 block of Barberry Lane in Zion, Illinois. Police, firefighters, and paramedics responded to a report of a person shot outside an apartment building at approximately 7:31 p.m..
Upon arrival, they found a 20-year-old male victim, later identified as Willie Wright Jr. of North Chicago, with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with Advanced Life Support, where he was pronounced deceased in the emergency room.
The autopsy, completed on January 11, 2024, at the Lake County Coroner’s Office, confirmed that Willie Wright Jr. died from multiple gunshot wounds. A police radio alert indicated that the victim was shot with a rifle, and a witness reported seeing 11 shell casings on the ground at the scene.
The Zion Police Department’s Investigations Division and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the incident. They have recovered significant evidence linked to the event from the apartment building and other locations. Multiple leads were developed and are being investigated, but as of the current date, no arrests or suspects have been reported.
