On September 19, 2020, 44-year-old Jerome Darrell Rushing was fatally shot in the West Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. Rushing was standing with a group of people outside in the 6900 block of South Claremont Avenue when someone opened fire. He was struck multiple times in the abdomen and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide.
