On March 25, 2024, the Cahokia Heights Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad to investigate the death of Daniel L. Nunn, a 19-year-old resident of Cahokia Heights, Illinois. The incident occurred on March 23, 2024, when officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Melvin Drive and Lazarcheff Drive. Upon arrival, they found Daniel Nunn in a residential yard, where he had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prior to his death, Daniel Nunn had been reported missing through the Washington Park Police Department. The investigation into his death was led by the Major Case Squad, with Lt. Adam Connor of the Granite City PD serving as the commander, and Det. Drew Rutter of the Fairview Heights PD and Capt. Mike Mojzis of the O’Fallon PD as deputy report officers.
As a result of the investigation, a suspect was identified and charged in connection with Daniel Nunn's death. Jahrie Samudio, aged 17, was charged as an adult with 1st Degree Murder in the death of Daniel Nunn.
