Kaden W. Topal, an 18-year-old resident of Edwardsville, Illinois, died on May 16, 2024, in a tragic incident involving a home invasion and robbery. The incident occurred at an apartment in the 100 block of Thompson Street in Wood River, Illinois.
According to Wood River police Chief Brad Wells, Topal was fatally shot during the home invasion. The investigation revealed that Topal had participated in the home invasion and robbery alongside August C. Archambault, a 20-year-old man from Glen Carbon. Archambault had set up the home invasion and robbery, and Topal was his alleged accomplice. During the incident, they stole a gun from the apartment's resident. When the resident attempted to retrieve the gun, a struggle ensued between the resident and Topal, resulting in the gun being discharged and hitting Topal. He died at the scene.
Following the incident, August C. Archambault was charged with several offenses, including home invasion, aggravated robbery, and residential burglary. These charges were filed in connection with the events leading to Topal's death.
Kaden W. Topal's death was confirmed by local authorities and funeral services were arranged by Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville, Illinois.
