On August 20, 2024, 18-year-old Martez Omarion Morrow, affectionately known as "Billy Madison," "big twin," and "doodlebug," was tragically killed in a shooting in Chicago's Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood. The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. in the 300 block of West 75th Street, where Martez sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the left torso. Despite being rushed to St. Bernard Hospital, he was pronounced dead. Two other individuals, aged 19 and 20, were also injured in the shooting.
The 19-year-old suffered a critical head wound, while the 20-year-old was shot in the leg and reported in good condition. As of now, no suspects are in custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Born on March 19, 2006, in Chicago, Martez was recognized for his intelligence, ambition, and generous spirit. He was a dedicated student, committed to creating a better future for himself and his daughter, Adrianna Morrow, whom he cherished deeply. Martez's infectious humor and love for video games made him a beloved son, father, brother, and friend. He is survived by his parents, Cortez Sr. and Tafarra Miller, his stepfather, Emmanuel Raggs, siblings Diamond Morrow, Cortez Jr., Damarcus Martin, and Je’Marcus Raggs, as well as his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and close friends. His girlfriend, Dijaya Harris, and daughter, Adrianna, will forever hold his memory dear.
Funeral services were held at Angelus Funeral Home in Chicago, with a private family viewing on September 6, followed by a public visitation. A wake and funeral service took place on September 7, where family and friends gathered to honor Martez's life and legacy. The family encouraged those who knew Martez to share memories and photos on his memorial page, celebrating the joy and love he brought into their lives.
