Jesus Humberto Padilla Romero Jr., a 16-year-old, was tragically lost to gun violence on the night of September 20, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois. He had traveled to Chicago with two of his friends to get a haircut but never returned home that evening. During this outing, Jr was shot in the lower back and succumbed to his injury once he arrived at the hospital.
Born on February 23, 2008, in Orlando, Florida, at Winnie Palmer Hospital, Jr spent his early years in Waukegan, Illinois, before moving to Texas where he completed his middle school at E.T. Wrenn and his high school at Memorial High School in San Antonio. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit, touching the hearts of his family and close friends throughout his life.
Jr had various aspirations and interests; as a child, he wanted to be a policeman, and in his adolescence, he dreamed of following in his father's footsteps by taking control of his construction company. He also enjoyed cooking, particularly his father's recipes, and was fond of his mother's and aunt's cooking. His favorite activities included spending time with his family, playing video games, and eating his mother's food.
The community and his family are deeply affected by his loss, remembering him for his generous heart, jokes, and the love he shared with everyone. Jr was not just a brother but also a son, uncle, friend, mentor, and confidant, always making his family and friends feel welcome. His laughter was contagious, and his perspective on life was a guiding light for many.
A fundraiser was organized by Tatiana Gatica on behalf of Alba Romero to support Jr's loved ones during this difficult time. The visitation for Jr was held on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Memorial Chapel of Waukegan, with his last farewell on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 9:00 am.
