In the early evening of Memorial Day, a domestic tragedy unfolded in the parking lot of a Jr Food Mart in LaGrange, Georgia, claiming the life of 48-year-old Serrita Jasmine. On May 29, 2023, law enforcement responded to reports of gunfire at the convenience store located on Whitesville Road.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a male and a female, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical aid was rendered at the scene. The male, identified as Leroy Jasmine, was pronounced deceased in the parking lot. Serrita Jasmine was transported to WellStar Medical Center for treatment of her injuries, but she ultimately succumbed to them.
The subsequent investigation by the LaGrange Police Department revealed that Serrita and Leroy Jasmine were a married couple who had been separated for some time. The evidence indicated that Leroy confronted Serrita in the parking lot, where he shot her before turning the gun on himself in a fatal act of violence. The incident was determined to be a murder-suicide, with Leroy Jasmine identified as the sole suspect in the death of his estranged wife.
