On a Monday evening, the sense of normalcy at the Cameron Crossing Apartment Complex in LaGrange, Georgia, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. It was around 5:35 p.m. on March 30, 2026, when a violent and sudden attack unfolded, leaving two young people dead and a community in shock. One of the victims was Jakhala Marshay Moss, a 26-year-old Black female and a mother to a son and a daughter.
When LaGrange Police Department officers arrived at the scene in the 1600 block of Meadow
Trace, they discovered Jakhala in the parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. As they rendered aid, witnesses alerted them to a second victim. Inside Jakhala’s apartment, they found 18-year-old Jamarcus Kennedy, who was also unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, both Jakhala and Jamarcus were pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation revealed a chilling sequence of events. Two unidentified male suspects reportedly approached the apartment building on foot and began shooting at Jakhala and Jamarcus. After being shot, Jamarcus managed to run into Jakhala’s apartment, where he collapsed. The two assailants fled the area on foot and have not yet been identified. The LaGrange Police Chief has stated that the shooting is believed to be connected to gang activity, a problem he noted is affecting communities across Georgia.
In the wake of the tragedy, city leaders and the police department have called on the community to come forward with any information that could lead to the capture of those responsible for this "cowardly and violent" act. They emphasized that remaining silent out of fear or a misplaced sense of loyalty only endangers the community further. The investigation remains active as authorities work to bring justice for Jakhala Moss and Jamarcus Kennedy. At this time, no arrests have been made, and the police continue to seek the public's help in identifying the two male suspects.
