In the early morning hours of February 4, 2020, tragedy struck in southwest Atlanta when 18-year-old Antonio Jones, a male known to his family as Madroxk, was found shot to death. The incident unfolded at an apartment complex located in the 1700 block of Stanton Road. Police were initially called to the scene around 4:30 a.m. to investigate reports of gunshots. Upon their arrival, they discovered that one of the apartment buildings had been struck by multiple rounds of gunfire.
A subsequent search of the area led to the grim discovery of Jones behind one of the buildings; he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that the shooting was the result of a drive-by, with a witness reporting that a vehicle had driven through the complex and opened fire. The sheer violence of the act was evidenced by the 30 to 35 shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon that littered the parking lot. Authorities later released information about a suspect vehicle, described as a silver 2014 to 2018 Chevrolet Silverado with damage to the rear driver-side fender and a missing gas cap. Despite the active investigation and the identification of a vehicle of interest, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the murder of Antonio Jones. His sister remembered him as an innocent who was simply walking to the store and never returned.
A separate and unrelated case that has lingered in Atlanta's history for much longer is the death of Anthony 'Wolf' Jones, a 36-year-old man who was well-known in the music industry as a bodyguard for Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs. In the pre-dawn hours of November 11, 2003, a violent altercation outside of Club Chaos in the Buckhead neighborhood claimed the lives of both Jones and his friend, 38-year-old Lamont Girdy. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute inside the nightclub involving a woman. The argument spilled outside, erupting into a shootout where dozens of shots were fired. When the chaos subsided, Jones and Girdy lay dead, with significant amounts of cash found on their bodies.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly focused on Demetrius 'Big Meech' Flenory, the co-founder of the Black Mafia Family a notorious drug trafficking and money laundering organization. Flenory himself was injured in the shootout, sustaining a gunshot wound to the buttocks. He was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of murder. However, the case against him was eventually dropped. Flenory claimed he acted in self-defense, and prosecutors were faced with a lack of cooperating witnesses, a common challenge in cases involving high-profile street figures. Due to the insufficient evidence to proceed to trial, the charges were dismissed, and the murder of Anthony 'Wolf' Jones officially remains unsolved. Despite the passage of time, the case is still considered a cold case and has been mentioned in subsequent legal filings related to Flenory.
