In the early morning hours of Valentine's Day 2024, a burst of violence at a motel in Claxton, Georgia, cut short the life of 26-year-old Taylor Samone Clark. A native of Millen and resident of Statesboro, Clark was a woman known for her outgoing and outspoken personality, someone who embraced life with a vibrant and creative spirit. She found joy in doing hair, singing, rapping, and dancing, and deeply cherished her family, holding her many siblings close to her heart.
The tragic events unfolded around 7 a.m. at the Relax Inn on U.S. Highway 301. The Claxton Police Department and Evans County Sheriff's Office responded to 911 calls reporting a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene with four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Taylor Samone Clark and another woman, 27-year-old Shalonde A'Jessisa Stevens of Statesboro, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals were also wounded in the incident.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to lead the inquiry into the double homicide. Their investigation quickly pointed to a suspect, and three days after the fatal shooting, an arrest was made. Celeste Denise Adams, a 23-year-old from Waynesboro, turned herself in to the Evans County Sheriff's Office. Adams was subsequently charged with two counts of murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with the shooting that ended the lives of Taylor Samone Clark and Shalonde A'Jessisa Stevens. The bodies of the two victims were transported to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsies to be performed.
