In Luthersville, Georgia, on a Wednesday afternoon, the life of 19-year-old Bryant Quentin Elder, Jr. was cut tragically short. On March 13, 2024, deputies responded to a 911 call around 5:40 p.m. at a residence on College Street. Behind the home, in a storage shed, they discovered the young man, who had sustained a single gunshot wound to his chest.
Despite the immediate efforts of first responders to provide lifesaving measures, Elder was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses at the location quickly identified the shooter as 19-year-old Omar Maurice Rosser, Jr. The investigation revealed that following the shooting, Rosser fled the scene in Elder's white Mazda. A short time later, the vehicle was found abandoned in the Zion Hill Community of Meriwether County. According to witnesses there, the driver of the Mazda got into a white Honda and left the area. Authorities issued a statewide alert for Rosser.
The search for Rosser culminated two days later in a tense, hours-long SWAT standoff at an apartment building on McIntosh Road in Newnan. Officers had surrounded the residence where Rosser had barricaded himself, refusing to surrender. When the SWAT team eventually made entry into the apartment, they found Omar Maurice Rosser, Jr. deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Interestingly, public records indicated a prior interaction between Elder and Rosser with law enforcement just a week before the fatal shooting. Bryant Elder had been arrested for a hit-and-run, and the passenger in the vehicle with him at that time was Omar Rosser.
