On a summer evening in 2024, a father and daughter met a prospective buyer for a car they were selling, a transaction that would tragically end in their deaths. Heather Neely, a 35-year-old Black woman, and her father, 58-year-old Stanley Neely, were shot and killed on June 23, 2024, at the Freedom Park Apartments on Delano Road in South Fulton, a city in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
The meeting with the potential buyer reportedly escalated into a heated argument over the payment for the vehicle.
The disagreement turned deadly when the prospective buyer opened fire. An eyewitness to the horrific event reported that the shooter fired multiple times, first hitting Stanley Neely. The gunman then allegedly stood over Heather Neely and shot her in the head. In a final act of brutality, the assailant fled the scene in the very car he was supposed to purchase, driving over Heather's arm as he made his escape. Both Heather and her father were pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting.
For over a year, the suspect in the double homicide remained at large, with law enforcement, including U.S. Marshals, actively searching for him as he was believed to have fled the state. The individual was eventually identified as Kendrick Faibvre. Following his apprehension, Faibvre appeared in court for a preliminary hearing in October 2025. During this hearing, his defense argued that he acted in self-defense, claiming that both Stanley and Heather Neely had brandished firearms during the dispute.
However, witness testimony contradicted Faibvre's claim of self-defense. It was stated that Heather Neely had actually placed her gun on the ground in an attempt to de-escalate the volatile situation. Detectives also testified that witnesses at the scene did not support the self-defense narrative. Evidence presented by the prosecution included testimony that Faibvre had used a gun with a. 22 magazine and had emptied the entire magazine during the shooting. Following his capture, Faibvre allegedly attempted to conceal his involvement by having the car crushed and deleting his social media profiles.
The Neely family, devastated by their loss, has been present at Faibvre's court appearances, pleading with the judge to deny him bond and ensure that justice is served for Heather and Stanley. In a court hearing in late October 2025, a Fulton County judge denied bond for Kendrick Faibvre, citing his history. The judge determined there was sufficient probable cause for the case to proceed, and Faibvre remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
