In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Brunswick, Georgia, a verbal dispute tragically escalated, cutting short the life of 17-year-old Xavier Devon Williams. On July 14, 2024, at approximately 11:19 p.m., in the 1200 block of Albany Street, the young man was fatally wounded by a gunshot. When Brunswick police arrived at the scene, they found Williams with a fatal gunshot wound.
The events that transpired that night left a community in mourning and a family grappling with the sudden and violent loss of a young life.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect. Authorities identified 22-year-old Ta'Quan Waye as the individual involved in the altercation with Williams. Following the incident, Waye fled the scene, prompting a search by law enforcement. He was described as a Black male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with distinctive facial tattoos. The Brunswick Police Department issued warrants for his arrest on serious charges, including murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
The search for Ta'Quan Waye extended beyond the borders of Georgia. He was eventually located and apprehended in North Carolina. Following his arrest, Waye was booked into the Glynn County Jail on July 26, 2024. The charges listed in his booking information include murder, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, receipt, possession or transport of a firearm by a convicted felon or felony first offender, and a parole violation.
