In August of 2024, the life of Carrie Hardin, a female, was tragically cut short in Fayetteville, Georgia. The events leading to her death began with a domestic dispute with her husband, Kenneth Hardin Jr., in the early morning hours. Following the argument, Kenneth Hardin Jr. fatally shot his wife. In an attempt to conceal the crime, he then took her body to the backyard of their Merlin Court home, partially burned her remains, and buried them in a shallow grave under yard debris.
The grim discovery of Carrie Hardin's death was set in motion by her husband's own actions. Kenneth Hardin Jr. confessed to his father that he had killed his wife, claiming it was in self-defense, and that he was leaving town. Alarmed by the confession, his father promptly contacted the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. When deputies arrived at the couple's home, they found evidence consistent with the father's statement, including signs of blood and an attempt to clean up the crime scene. A cadaver dog was brought in and ultimately located Carrie Hardin's buried remains in a wooded area behind the house.
While investigators were uncovering the scene of the crime, Kenneth Hardin Jr. had already fled the state of Georgia. He was tracked to a motel in Covington, Louisiana, where he was apprehended by the St. Tammany Parish SWAT unit. After his arrest, he was extradited back to Georgia to face charges for the murder of his wife. In June 2025, Kenneth Hardin Jr. pleaded guilty to felony murder, concealing the death of another, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder, with an additional ten years for concealing the death and five years for the firearm possession charge.
