On February 26, 2023, a quadruple shooting occurred outside a convenience store in the 400 block of Northwest 27th Avenue in Pompano Beach, Florida. Among the victims were 31-year-old Delana James and 35-year-old Dayvon Johnson, who both succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead upon arrival at Broward Health North.
The shooting happened around 9:01 p.m. and involved multiple gunmen who fired over 60 rounds using assault rifles and handguns.
In addition to James and Johnson, two other victims, a man and a juvenile, were injured but survived the attack. Surveillance footage captured the chaos and panic as people dashed for cover, and an injured man was seen hobbling into the store after the shooting.
Initially, authorities were searching for a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was involved in the incident, which was later found. However, the suspects remained at large until nearly two months later. On April 11, 2023, the Broward Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Damian Charmant, an 18-year-old man who was 17 at the time of the shooting. Charmant, already in custody on unrelated charges, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree attempted murder with a firearm.
Despite Charmant's arrest, investigators continue to search for additional suspects involved in the shooting. The community and the families of the victims are urging anyone with information to come forward, with a reward of up to $10,000 being offered for tips leading to further arrests. The incident has highlighted the need for community effort to address the root causes of such violent crimes.
