On May 13, 2023, Sean Lalley, a 30-year-old resident of Port Charlotte, Florida, was found deceased in his vehicle at the Seven Palms Apartments in Punta Gorda, Florida. Upon arrival, police discovered that Lalley had been shot to death in his car at that location.
The incident prompted a thorough and extensive investigation by the Punta Gorda Police Department, which lasted for over a year.
This investigation was supported by a network of local, state, and federal agencies, including the Charlotte County State Attorney’s Office, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Digital Forensics Unit, Sarasota County Digital Forensics Unit, FDLE Cyber Crime/ESST Squad, Desoto County Sheriff’s Department, North Port Police Department’s Digital Forensic Unit, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
On June 18, 2024, Janari N. Richardson, an 18-year-old individual, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal’s Federal Fugitive Task Force at the Desoto Landing Apartments in Arcadia, Florida. Richardson was charged with the robbery and murder of Sean Lalley and was subsequently transported to the Desoto County Jail before being transferred to the Charlotte County Jail. He is currently facing charges of 2nd Degree Murder with a Firearm and Robbery with a Firearm.
The investigation into Lalley's death is ongoing, and authorities are still seeking additional suspects. The collaborative effort among various law enforcement agencies underscores a shared commitment to justice, with Chief Pamela Smith of the Punta Gorda Police Department expressing her gratitude to all the agencies involved and appreciating the hard work and perseverance of the detectives, which will help bring justice to Sean Lalley’s family.
