Roderick “Drick” Lampkin Sr., a 51-year-old resident of Fort Pierce, Florida, passed away on July 14, 2023. The circumstances of his death are linked to a violent incident that occurred at a small shopping plaza in Fort Pierce.
On the evening of July 14, 2023, a shooting took place at a plaza that included businesses such as Dixon Foodmart, a smokeshop, and a Western Union location.
During this incident, multiple gunshot wounds were inflicted on three victims, who were subsequently taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital. Two of the men, one of whom was identified as Roderick Lampkin, aged 51, succumbed to their injuries. A third victim, aged 44, was listed in critical condition.
The suspect in the shooting, Alah Nawef Shehadeh, a 32-year-old man from Homestead, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. Shehadeh, who claimed to be a clerk at the Fire Deals smoke shop where the incident occurred, stated that several people rushed into the store, some of whom were armed. However, surveillance footage indicated that the victims were not armed.
Family and friends, including Seed Wyche, who was with Roderick Lampkin during the fatal shooting, expressed deep sorrow and shock over the incident. Wyche described how he narrowly avoided being shot himself and lamented the loss of his brother, stating that Roderick did not deserve such a fate. The community came together for a prayer vigil at the shooting site, reflecting on the tragic loss of life in their neighborhood.
