On August 16, 2023, 20-year-old James Givens IV was fatally shot in Ocoee, Florida. The incident occurred in the 300 block of Montheath Circle, where police responded to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found James Givens suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation led to the arrest of 20-year-old Amarien Shamar, who is facing charges related to the deadly shooting.
According to the police, Shamar and the victim knew each other, and the shooting did not appear to be a random act. The suspect was arrested within the first 48 hours of the incident, thanks to a collaborative effort between the Ocoee police, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the State Attorney’s Office.
Despite the arrest, the Ocoee police have stated that the case remains an active and ongoing investigation. They are seeking any additional information related to the homicide and have asked the public to contact Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
James Givens IV is survived by his mother, Angeal Battle; his father, James Lee Givens III; his daughter, A'Mia Givens; his brother, Jalen Givens; and his sisters, Aniya Givens, Alyssa Driver, Hillary Rawlings, and Jaliscia Givens, along with a host of family and friends. Funeral services were held on August 26, 2023, at Bethel AME Church in St. Petersburg, Florida.
