Francis G. Tolbert, a 71-year-old man, died on April 16, 2024, in Cape Coral, Florida, due to gun violence. The incident occurred when Cape Coral Police responded to a report of a cardiac arrest at a residence. Upon arrival, EMS personnel found Francis Tolbert bleeding from the back of his head, and despite initial reports of an unknown cause, he was found to have a faint pulse. However, he died shortly thereafter.
An investigation revealed that Francis's injuries were not medical in nature. Police discovered a shell casing near his body, which led them to suspect that his death was a result of a gunshot wound. An autopsy later confirmed this suspicion by identifying a bullet fragment in his head.
The police identified John Tolbert, Francis's brother, as a person of interest in the case. However, John Tolbert had not been located until April 30, 2024, when he was pulled over by troopers in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. At the time of the stop, it was discovered that he had an outstanding arrest warrant for manslaughter with a weapon.
John Tolbert was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with his brother's death. He is currently awaiting extradition to Cape Coral, Florida, to face the manslaughter charge related to Francis G. Tolbert's murder.
