On May 12, 2024, Levil Smith, a 37-year-old resident of Fort Pierce, Florida, was fatally shot. The incident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. in the area of North 24th Street and Canal Terrace. According to investigators, Smith was approached by an unknown person and suffered a gunshot wound.
Smith was immediately taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital by St. Lucie County Fire Rescue, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

In that incident, Smith allegedly followed a vehicle containing multiple children and fired a gun into it, striking the teenager in the back. Smith was charged with several felonies, including aggravated child abuse, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Despite his denial of involvement, Smith was identified as the suspect through investigative efforts by the sheriff's office. However, this previous incident does not appear to be directly linked to his fatal shooting on May 12, 2024, as the current case remains under investigation with no identified suspect or motive disclosed as of now.
