On July 12, 2024, Miramar police responded to a shooting near a dentist's office located at 1141 Palm Avenue in Hialeah, Florida. Upon arrival, they found Adalberto Wagner Garrido, a 58-year-old homeless man, with a gunshot wound to the head. Garrido was immediately transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 19, 2024.
The investigation into Garrido's death involved a thorough review of surveillance footage.
Detectives confirmed that Garrido was shot while he was asleep outside the dentist's office. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Mohammed Rajaie Ali, was seen fleeing the scene in a black 2011 Ford Mustang convertible.
Further surveillance footage from Ali’s North Miami Beach apartment complex showed him carrying a dark-colored revolver just moments before the shooting. Authorities obtained a warrant and placed a GPS tracker on Ali’s vehicle. Additional video footage from an apartment complex near the crime scene depicted Ali acting suspiciously and in possession of a firearm. Specifically, he was seen dancing and spinning a gray shirt while pointing a gun toward the ground while waiting for the elevator.
The surveillance footage also captured Ali walking up to Garrido, who was asleep in front of the dentist’s office, and shooting him in the head at approximately 1:30 a.m. without any provocation. This evidence led to Ali's arrest on Friday, July 19, 2024.
As of the time of the report, Ali was being held at the Broward County main jail without bond in Fort Lauderdale. He also had a hold from Miami-Dade County on a first-degree murder charge. The motive behind the fatal shooting and the relationship between Ali and Garrido remain unclear.
