Rohan Noel Malcolm, a 52-year-old former IT specialist at the Jamaica Observer, was fatally shot by his wife, Denise Malcolm, at their residence in Coral Springs, Florida, on Saturday, August 31, 2024. The incident occurred at their home in the 10500 block of Northwest 43rd Street.
The events unfolded when one of the couple’s 14-year-old twin sons made a 911 call around 6:30 p.m., reporting that his father had been shot in the shoulder and was still alive. Upon arrival, police officers took cover outside the residence and gave verbal commands for the occupants to exit. The two children came out and were kept safe, but while officers continued to issue commands, they heard another gunshot coming from inside the house.
Denise Malcolm, 45, eventually exited the residence and was arrested. She is charged with premeditated murder and is being held without bond at the Broward Sheriff’s Office Paul Rein Detention Facility in Pompano Beach. According to police reports, Rohan Malcolm suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was found dead on the bedroom floor.
The motive behind the killing was attributed to infidelity issues that had been plaguing the marriage for the past two years. Denise Malcolm told detectives that she was "at her wits' end" due to Rohan's unfaithfulness, which had led to them sleeping in separate bedrooms and frequent heated arguments. On the day of the incident, the couple had an argument after returning from shopping for a Labor Day barbecue, during which Rohan announced he was going out with friends. Denise became suspicious and angry, believing he was lying, and this led to a heated verbal altercation lasting 45 minutes to an hour.
In her rage, Denise retrieved a pistol from her bedroom closet, loaded it, and shot her husband multiple times while standing in the doorway. After the initial shots, Rohan was still alive and clutching his shoulder, but Denise fired one final shot, killing him just as police arrived. She had planned to kill herself after Rohan died but changed her mind when he said something that stopped her suicidal thoughts, prompting her to fire the fatal shot instead.
Denise Malcolm has been detained without bail since the incident, and no court hearings had been scheduled as of the latest reports.
