On October 31, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred in the area of Willow Oak, near Mulberry, Florida, involving a dispute between rival gang members. The victim, Mary Dino, 28, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her boyfriend, Jose Coronado, 34. Coronado and another individual, Joshua Clark, 35, who is a felon, met at the scene and an argument ensued.
During the altercation, Coronado reached into his vehicle to retrieve a firearm, which accidentally discharged, hitting Dino in the chest. Following the accidental shooting, Coronado blamed Clark for the incident and a gunfight broke out between the two men. After realizing Dino was shot, Coronado drove her to the area of Pine Grove and Ryals roads, where he placed her in the tailgate of a truck and instructed nearby individuals to take her to the hospital. Coronado then fled the scene, citing that he had a warrant for his arrest.
Coronado had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in a methamphetamine trafficking case out of Hillsborough County. Polk County deputies located Coronado's vehicle about 20 miles away on Highway 17, north of Fort Meade, and apprehended him after a pursuit that ended with a PIT maneuver.
Joshua Clark, also known as "Chop," was initially at large but was arrested later the same day. Both Coronado and Clark are known to be involved in the meth trade and are part of what Sheriff Grady Judd described as a "cranker colony."
Mary Dino was taken to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries. The incident highlights the violent nature of gang disputes and the involvement of these individuals in the methamphetamine trade. Sheriff Judd emphasized the severity of drug-related crimes, stating his frustration with the perception that such crimes are low-level and nonviolent.
