On the night of January 20, 2023, the life of 18-year-old Nasier Graham was tragically cut short in what police described as a random and senseless act of violence. The male victim was at the Brookstone Apartments in Loveland, Colorado, when the events that led to his death began to unfold. A white Dodge Ram pickup truck pulled into the parking lot and stopped in front of the car Graham was in.
Two individuals exited the truck and fired shots.
Following the shooting, Graham was removed from his vehicle, and two of the assailants got inside and began to flee, following the pickup truck through the apartment complex. As they tried to get away, the driver of the stolen car slid on ice and crashed into another parked vehicle occupied by a 16-year-old. A verbal altercation broke out between the suspects and the teen, which resulted in more shots being fired. The 16-year-old was injured but managed to run to a nearby apartment to call for help and ultimately survived his wounds.
In the days that followed, the Loveland Police Department launched an extensive investigation, which, aided by more than 90 tips from the community, led to the arrest of three suspects. All three individuals were 15-year-old males from Greeley. One of the teens, Vincent Zamora, later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Another suspect, Oscar Perez, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted murder charges and received a sentence of 40.5 years. The case against the third suspect was handled in juvenile court. Police recovered the white Dodge Ram pickup truck and two guns believed to have been used in the crime.
