In the early morning hours of September 26, 2024, the city of Pueblo, Colorado, was rocked by a violent crime that claimed the life of 56-year-old Nicholas Edward Grace. The incident unfolded in the parking lot of a convenience store located in the 1100 block of Pueblo Boulevard Way. At approximately 3:08 a.m., a panic alarm and reports of a possible shooting prompted a response from the Pueblo Police Department. Upon their arrival, officers discovered the body of a deceased male, later identified as Nicholas Edward Grace, in the parking lot.
The investigation into the death of the male victim revealed a grim sequence of events. It is believed that Grace was the victim of an attempted carjacking that tragically turned fatal. During a struggle with his assailant, Grace was shot. The suspect then fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle they had attempted to steal. The Pueblo County Coroner's Office later confirmed Grace's identity and ruled his death a homicide. This incident marked the 16th homicide in the city of Pueblo for the year 2024.
Following the incident, the Pueblo Police Department launched an intensive investigation. Their efforts led to the identification and subsequent arrest of two suspects. Dewayne Ingram, 20, was charged with First-Degree Murder. At the time the charges were brought forth, Ingram was already in custody in El Paso County, Colorado, on unrelated charges. The second suspect, 24-year-old Aaron Alvarado, was arrested and faced charges of Second-Degree Murder, Complicity to Aggravated Robbery, and Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Robbery. Alvarado was booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center.
