In the small town of Enoch, Utah, the life of 17-year-old Caucasian female Macie Haight was tragically cut short on January 4, 2023. On that day, police discovered a horrific scene inside the Haight family home after being called to perform a welfare check when Macie's mother, Tausha, missed an appointment. Macie, along with her mother, grandmother, and four younger siblings, had been fatally shot.
The victims included her mother Tausha Haight, 40; her maternal grandmother, Gail Earl, 78; and her siblings, Brilee, 12, twins Ammon and Sienna, 7, and Gavin, 4.
The investigation quickly identified the perpetrator as Macie's own father, 42-year-old Michael Haight. Authorities determined that Michael had shot and killed his seven family members before taking his own life. No other suspects were sought, and because the sole suspect was deceased, no arrests were made. The incident was classified as a murder-suicide that devastated the close-knit community.
The tragedy unfolded just two weeks after Tausha Haight had filed for divorce from her husband. In the days leading up to the killings, Michael had removed all the guns from the family home. This was not the first sign of trouble within the household. In 2020, Macie had reported her father's abusive behavior to the police, detailing multiple assaults and expressing a deep fear for her life. She told investigators that her father had choked her and she was afraid he would kill her. Despite her report, criminal charges were never filed against Michael Haight. After the killings, a suicide note written by Michael was found, in which he expressed anger and blamed his wife.
