In a quiet home in Enoch, Utah, the life of 4-year-old Caucasian male, Gavin Haight, was tragically cut short on January 4, 2023. On that day, Gavin, along with his mother, Tausha Haight, his four older siblings, and his grandmother, were found deceased inside their residence. The discovery was made by police officers who had been asked to perform a welfare check after Tausha missed an appointment.
The subsequent investigation revealed a scene of immense tragedy.
Gavin, his mother Tausha, 40; his grandmother Gail Earl, 78; and his siblings, Macie, 17, Brilee, 12, and twins Ammon and Sienna, 7, had all been fatally shot. The perpetrator was identified as Gavin's father, 42-year-old Michael Haight, who was also found deceased in the home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators believe Michael Haight killed his seven family members before taking his own life. Because the sole suspect died at the scene, no arrests were made.
The motive for the horrific act appears to be linked to marital problems and a history of domestic turmoil. Tausha Haight had filed for divorce just two weeks before the killings. Additionally, it was revealed that Enoch police had investigated Michael Haight in 2020 for domestic abuse allegations involving his eldest daughter, Macie. In the days leading up to the tragedy, Michael Haight had reportedly removed all firearms from the home. A suicide note left by Michael Haight was found at the scene, in which he expressed anger towards his wife. The incident was a devastating murder-suicide that left the small community of Enoch in mourning.
