In Salt Lake City, Utah, on the day before Mother's Day, May 13, 2023, the life of 16-year-old Om Moses Gandhi, a Caucasian male, was tragically cut short. The devastating event unfolded inside the neuropsychology clinic of his father, 49-year-old Parth Gandhi. It was there that Parth fatally shot his son before taking his own life in a murder-suicide. The bodies were discovered at the office complex located at 2936 S. Highland Drive after a 911 call was made to authorities.
First responders arrived to find the father and son deceased at the scene.
The Salt Lake City Police Department's investigation concluded that Parth Gandhi was the sole perpetrator in his son's death. As the suspect took his own life, no arrests were made in connection with the murder. The case was closed following the confirmation of the murder-suicide. The incident brought to light a long and troubled history between Om's parents, Leah Moses and Parth Gandhi, which was detailed in numerous court documents and police reports. For over a decade, the two had been embroiled in a contentious custody battle over their two children.
Leah Moses had repeatedly sought help from law enforcement and the courts, alleging that her ex-husband was abusive and that she feared for her children's safety. She had filed for protective orders against Parth Gandhi in 2009 and 2011. Despite her efforts and what friends and family described as years of warnings, a court had granted Parth Gandhi sole custody of Om in a temporary order issued in January 2022. At the time of the murder-suicide, Parth Gandhi was also under investigation for the alleged sexual assault of a woman. Friends and family remember Om as a talented and kind young man who was a gifted musician, with his saxophone in hand on the day he was killed.
