In the early morning hours of May 24, 2014, a male Salt River Police Department officer, 37-year-old Jair Abelardo Cabrera, was tragically shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop near the intersection of Pima and Chaparral roads on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, bordering Scottsdale, Arizona.
