On August 18, 2015, 17-year-old Sophia Gibbs and her 18-year-old boyfriend, Jesse Romero, were found deceased in the area of Salome Highway, just west of 411th Avenue in Tonopah, Arizona. The bodies were discovered at approximately 5:45 a.m., with both victims having been fatally shot.
