On April 3, 2020, a fatal shooting occurred at an apartment complex near Elliot and Recker roads in Gilbert, Arizona. The victim, identified as 42-year-old Kristie Bobbitt, was found dead in a car in the apartment parking lot. She had sustained gunshot injuries.

Kristie Bobbitt and the suspect, 42-year-old Phillip Bobbitt, were married but had been separated. Phillip Bobbitt had filed for divorce in June 2019 after 21 years of marriage.
