In the late evening hours of April 21, 2020, in Yuma, Arizona, the life of Emuel Flores, a 25-year-old Black / African American male, was tragically cut short. The incident unfolded at the Rio Santa Fe Apartments, where residents reported hearing arguments followed by the sound of multiple gunshots. When officers from the Yuma Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered two men with gunshot wounds.
Flores was pronounced dead at the scene, having sustained fatal injuries.
A second individual, a 38-year-old man, was also seriously injured in the shooting and was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for treatment. Witnesses at the apartment complex described a chaotic scene, with one resident recounting hearing an argument among four men just moments before a volley of what sounded like 10 to 11 gunshots rang out.
Born on June 26, 1994, in Anaheim, California, Flores's death prompted an outpouring of condolences on social media from those who knew him. The Yuma Police Department launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. At the time of the initial reports, the investigation was ongoing, and authorities had not released a description of any suspects involved in the incident. The case remained under investigation as police worked to uncover the circumstances and motives that led to the deadly shooting.
