In what was supposed to be a new chapter of her life, 28-year-old Brooke M. Lundy was found dead in her Gilbert, Arizona, home on May 13, 2024. Authorities discovered her body alongside that of her 40-year-old boyfriend, Matthew Blevens, in what has been described as a murder-suicide. Investigators believe Blevens shot Lundy multiple times before turning the gun on himself.
The tragic event occurred just twelve days after she had celebrated her 28th birthday.
Originally from Grand Island, Nebraska, Lundy had moved to Arizona about four years prior, seeking a fresh start and a better life. She met Blevens at the gas station where she worked as a manager. While she initially told her family she was happy, the relationship concealed a darker, abusive reality. Family members later learned that Lundy had been subjected to controlling and violent behavior.
In the weeks leading up to her death, the abuse escalated significantly. Lundy’s family reported that Blevens had recently broken her nose and arm. She had confided in her mother on her birthday that Blevens had been threatening to kill her. He had also allegedly threatened to harm her family in Nebraska if she tried to leave and return home. Despite feeling trapped, Lundy was trying to find a way out, and her family was actively making plans to help her escape the dangerous situation.
The discovery of the bodies just after midnight on a Sunday near Val Vista Drive and Ray Road brought the devastating situation to its conclusion. With the perpetrator deceased, the investigation confirmed the case as a murder-suicide, leaving no possibility for an arrest. Lundy's family, left in a state of shock and grief, organized a GoFundMe to cover the expenses of bringing her body back to Nebraska for her funeral and burial.
