In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Phoenix, Arizona, the life of 21-year-old John Santillan Purper was tragically cut short. On July 28, 2024, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Purper was standing on the sidewalk outside a residence at 1033 North Patricio Street when a vehicle approached. Several gunshots were fired from a red Dodge Ram pick-up truck that was traveling north on North Patricio Street, striking Purper.
Phoenix police officers were dispatched to the scene near Roosevelt
and 16th streets after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Purper with a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital in extremely critical condition. Despite medical efforts, John Purper succumbed to his injuries and passed away the following day, on the afternoon of July 29th.
The assailant or assailants fled the scene after the shooting, and as of late July 2024, no suspects had been identified or taken into custody. The Phoenix Police Department's homicide detectives are actively investigating the case. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information regarding the shooting or the red Dodge Ram pick-up truck seen in the area. Silent Witness has offered a reward of up to $2,000 for any tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case.
