On a Wednesday afternoon in Omaha, Nebraska, the life of 22-year-old Jarrell Haynes, a Black / African American male, was cut short by gunfire. On March 2, 2016, Haynes was fatally shot outside his aunt's home in the area of 30th and Laurel Avenue. The events of that day began at the Douglas County Courthouse, where Haynes, a cousin of a murder victim in an ongoing trial, had attempted to attend the proceedings but was denied entry because he did not have identification.
