A man drives himself to the hospital; dies from injuries On a Saturday afternoon in Omaha, Nebraska, the life of a 22-year-old Caucasian male, Derek Huntley, was tragically cut short. On November 24, 2012, an unknown individual entered Huntley's family home on Patrick Avenue and shot him. At the time of the incident, his brother was asleep in the house and was awakened by the sound of the gunshot.
Following the shooting, the injured Huntley went to his brother and stated he was going to the hospital.
He managed to drive himself to Creighton University Medical Center. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital before he was able to speak with police investigators. The keys to his vehicle were reportedly still in the ignition when he was found.
The initial investigation was complicated by the fact that Huntley had driven himself from the scene of the crime. Police were called to the hospital around 12:30 p.m. regarding a gunshot victim who had walked in, leaving them to piece together where the shooting had actually occurred.
