In the early morning hours of October 6, 2024, a chaotic scene unfolded outside the Los Diablos Motorcycle Club in Omaha, Nebraska, leaving one man dead and a community searching for answers. Alexander Whitcomb, a 37-year-old Black male, was found in critical condition after gunfire erupted in a large crowd that had gathered at 25th and Taylor streets.
Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Whitcomb succumbed to his injuries.
The incident, which also resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to 35-year-old Alexis Joseph, drew a significant police presence to the area. Patrolling officers near 25th and Ames heard multiple gunshots and arrived to find a scene of panic, with hundreds of people fleeing. The shooting marked the 15th homicide in Omaha for the year. The investigation into the deadly shooting is ongoing.
In the wake of the shooting, the Omaha Police Officers Association publicly criticized the Los Diablos Motorcycle Club, labeling it a "magnet for violence" and calling for its closure. The club's national president, Daniel Robinson, offered his condolences to Whitcomb's family and stated that the club was cooperating with law enforcement. He acknowledged the broader issue of gun violence in the community. The club and the area have a history of frequent 911 calls, with numerous reports of shootings, disturbances, and large crowds in the years leading up to the fatal incident.
