Kevin Michael Love, a 24-year-old White/Caucasian male from Bear, Delaware, died on Christmas night, December 25, 2022, after what first appeared to be a fatal crash near Glasgow. Delaware State Police said troopers were called around 9:48 p.m. to southbound Route 896, south of Route 40, for a possible fatal motor vehicle collision. When they arrived, they found a single vehicle off the roadway in a wooded area west of the road, with Love inside as the driver and only occupant.

responders tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The case quickly shifted from a crash investigation to a homicide investigation after authorities found a gunshot wound during an examination of his body. Delaware State Police later said Love had been shot while driving on the Glasgow Bypass near Pulaski Highway in the Newark area, and that he died at the scene.
The shooting brought a long closure of the southbound lanes of Route 896 as investigators processed the area and worked to determine where the gunfire came from and who was responsible. The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit took over the investigation and publicly identified Love several days later, asking anyone with information to contact Detective M. Csapo or submit tips through Delaware Crime Stoppers.
Love’s obituary described him as a Newark-born young man who graduated from Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Technical High School in 2017, where he studied industrial mechanics and millwright technologies. He later attended Delaware Technical Community College for business management and worked as a bank teller at PNC. Away from work and school, he was remembered as someone who loved soccer, ice hockey, the NHL, and recording and producing music.
