On April 20, 2008, in Bradley, Maine, 20-year-old Blake Michaud was fatally shot in a residence on Highpoint Place. The assailant, 19-year-old Eric Niles from Alton, Maine, confronted Michaud and 18-year-old Kristin Cates in her bedroom during the early morning hours. Niles, who had recently ended a relationship with Cates and was subject to a protective order she had obtained against him, shot Michaud before abducting Cates.
