In the quiet town of Limington, Maine, the life of a 30-year-old White/Caucasian woman named Kelly Winslow-Dapolito was tragically cut short in March of 2010. A mother described by her family as a caring and happy person, she was just six months into her marriage with Patrick Dapolito. The series of events that led to the discovery of her death began to unfold when her husband reported her missing from their home on Mike's Way on March 18, 2010.
This report launched an investigation by the Maine State Police, who soon suspected that her disappearance was the result of foul play.
The search for Kelly came to a grim conclusion on March 19, 2010, when her body was found on property owned by her father-in-law in the remote town of Upton, approximately 85 miles from her Limington home. An autopsy conducted by the State Medical Examiner's Office determined that she had died from a gunshot wound to the head, and her death was officially ruled a homicide. Investigators concluded that she had been killed on March 16th, two days before her husband had reported her missing.
Suspicion quickly fell upon Patrick Dapolito. Following an investigation, he arranged through his lawyer to turn himself in to the Maine State Police. On March 27, 2010, the 39-year-old was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife. He was subsequently taken to the York County Jail.
Patrick Dapolito's trial revealed a changing narrative. He initially claimed the shooting was accidental but later contended that his wife was a victim of a dispute with his associates in a marijuana-distribution business. However, a trajectory analysis of the bullet path contradicted his initial account, suggesting force was applied to Kelly's head when the gun was fired. In February 2012, a jury found Patrick Dapolito guilty of the murder of his wife, Kelly Winslow-Dapolito.
