On December 29, 2012, 19-year-old Derrick Thompson and his 18-year-old girlfriend, Alivia Welch, were fatally shot in their apartment at 17 Sokokis Road in Biddeford, Maine. The assailant was their landlord, 74-year-old James Pak, who also shot Thompson's mother, Susan Johnson; she survived by feigning death. The incident stemmed from a dispute over parking and unpaid rent.
Earlier that day, Thompson had contacted the Biddeford Police Department to report that Pak was threatening them.
