In the early hours of June 17, 2017, James Haskell, 41, of Chelsea, Maine, was fatally shot outside a residence on Yeaton Drive in West Gardiner. The homeowner, Derrick L. Dupont, 26 at the time, was identified as the shooter. Authorities reported that Haskell was trespassing and allegedly threatening the occupants of the home before Dupont shot him multiple times. Haskell sustained gunshot wounds to the head, neck, and abdomen, and was deceased upon the arrival of law enforcement.
