On December 19, 2017, in Millinocket, Maine, 59-year-old Wayne Lapierre and his wife, Diem, were victims of a violent home invasion. Two masked intruders entered their Massachusetts Avenue residence, shooting both Wayne and Diem in the head. Wayne was found handcuffed on the basement floor with gunshot wounds to the head, while Diem, despite her severe injuries, managed to call 911 and inform first responders that masked assailants had attacked them.
