In the small town of Millinocket, Maine, the life of 59-year-old Wayne Mark Lapierre, a White male, was tragically cut short in a violent home invasion. On the evening of December 19, 2017, two masked individuals forced their way into the Massachusetts Avenue residence that Lapierre shared with his wife. Both Wayne and his wife were shot during the armed robbery.
Following the shooting, the couple was rushed to Millinocket Regional Hospital, which was temporarily placed on lockdown as a
precautionary measure. They were later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor due to the severity of their injuries. While his wife began the road to recovery, Wayne Lapierre succumbed to his wounds on Friday, December 22, 2017. His death was promptly ruled a homicide, launching an intensive investigation by state and local police.
The investigation into the targeted home invasion revealed that the perpetrators had stolen marijuana and cash. This led authorities to three suspects: Tony Locklear, his daughter Alexis Locklear, and her boyfriend, Christopher Murray. Within months, all three were apprehended in different states. Tony Locklear was arrested in Birmingham, Alabama, while his daughter, Alexis, was taken into custody in Maxton, North Carolina. Christopher Murray was already incarcerated in Maine on unrelated charges.
Ultimately, all three individuals faced justice for their roles in the deadly home invasion. Tony Locklear and Christopher Murray were charged with murder. Tony Locklear pleaded guilty to murder, and Alexis Locklear pleaded guilty to robbery. Following a trial, Christopher Murray was also found guilty of murder and received a life sentence.
